Our baby needed a name. The EcoTourer opens like a clam shell and since this is hardly glamorous camping we refer to it as clamping. So the Clam it is! Our traveling companions, the Salibas, likened it to a pearl which suits this theme. We were meeting them in Port Fairy on the west end of the Great Ocean Road at Gardens Caravan Park on the Moyne River. The days there were a blissful mix of bright clear skies, warm sunshine, cycling and joy at being free to roam.
May 21 – Our route from the shed at Docklands where the Clam began its first voyage to Port Fairy.Our 3 days in Port Fairy could not have been a better way to start. Warm days, no wind. The perfect way to wind down after a hectic few weeks.The Moyne River presents a scenic backdrop for sundowners with visiting friends.

Gardens CP has a number of tree stumps that have been carved with a chainsaw into animals.This fallen tree trunk has been transformed into a majestic whale sculpture with swimming seal pups.The Moyne RiverGriffiths Island is home to a large colony of shearwaters which inhabit an estimated 100,000 burrows here during breeding season. They will migrate to the northern hemisphere for summer.Grazing llamas along the Port Fairy to Warnambool Rail Trail.Mickey Bourke’s Koroit Hotel exemplifies the Irish heritage of the small town of Koroit.From the top of Tower Hill we overlook Tower Hill Lake with the ocean beyond.Overlooking the Southern Ocean, Time and Tide offers a sumptuous high tea on weekends.The decor is whimsical without being tasteless.These knitted pastries are the only kitsch but stunning handiwork all the same.Known as the Petrified Forest these formations are hollow tubes of limestone eroded by years of rainfall.Along the Southern Ocean coast near the Victoria/SA border.

I was just thinking of you two and wondering how you had adjusted to life in situ. Now I see that you have found a way to break out! Wonderful news! Love the Clam. Stay clam!
Australia is keeping us under tight wraps till at least 2022 so we may as well explore more of what it has to offer. Border closures are really common these days but at least we can roam our own state for now.
Back on the road again! I love your Clam and I’m glad you found the right tower. And. as usual, the photos are beautiful. I particularly liked the High Tea —- looked SO delicious!

Design comment. The Time + Tide tea room is so charming. The sitting room retains the whimsy and works because of the color palette. Black, greys, and yellows contain the eye minimizing the cluttered affect that could be if it were all rainbow colored.

Great work you two! Look forward to more instalments.We stayed in the same Port Fairy park a couple of years ago….it was freezing cold and windy.We left just before the annual Dachshund Races.Oh yes….it’s “Glamping” not “Clamping”….or is that your bad pun?

Travel here will have to do until we can return to Europe and the USA. Not such a bad thing overall!
